Brown Condemns ICE Deployment to Cleveland Hopkins Airport

Cleveland, OH – The Trump Administration has reportedly deployed ICE agents to various airports across the country, including Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. Last week, Congresswoman Brown joined a Democratic effort to fund TSA and the other lawful DHS agencies. Republicans in Congress have refused to fund TSA unless ICE is funded with no reforms.
Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) releases the following statement:
“This is a disaster waiting to happen. ICE shouldn’t be at any airport in America.
“ICE agents aren’t trained to work airport security – it’s a different job in a different work environment. And as we’ve seen repeatedly with our own eyes, many of Trump’s new agents aren’t even trained to do their own job. These are the last individuals the American people want working in an already high-stress travel environment.
“Resolving this situation isn’t complicated: we could get TSA workers paid immediately if the White House and Republicans in Congress stopped forcing them to work without pay. Democrats are ready to fund TSA today. I fully support funding TSA and would vote for that bill immediately.
“Stop the nonsense: fund TSA and stop using ICE to terrorize the American people.”
