Brown: Trump’s Disgraceful Budget is Dead On Arrival

April 3, 2026

Trump seeks trillions for war, cuts education and heating assistance

Cleveland, OH – Today, President Trump submitted the White House Budget Request for Fiscal Year 2027. Trump has requested $1.5 trillion in funding for the military – a 42% increase – along with $73 billion in cuts to funding for domestic programs.

Trump’s Budget calls for significant funding cuts to the Department of Education, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Labor, and the Department of Agriculture.

The Trump Administration’s Budget Proposal eliminates the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), Job Corps, the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund, Community Services Block Grants, the EPA’s Environmental Justice Program, the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) and more.

Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) releases the following statement:

“President Trump’s budget is disgraceful—and it’s dead on arrival. It proposes pouring billions into his reckless wars abroad paid for by cutting programs Northeast Ohio families count on every day. This budget would not only gut funding for education, health care, and housing, it would totally eliminate Cleveland’s Job Corps Center and the LIHEAP program that helps Clevelanders heat their homes in the winter. Like last year, I’ll stand with my Democratic colleagues to reject this budget that funds war by cutting resources that keep life affordable at home.”
