Brown Votes to End Trump’s War with Iran

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) voted in favor of a War Powers Resolution (H. Con. Res. 38) to end United States military action against Iran absent Congressional authorization.
Congresswoman Brown releases the following statement:
“Today, I voted to end Trump’s war with Iran and to defend and uphold our Constitution. The Constitution gives Congress the power to declare war to prevent a situation exactly like this, where the President has recklessly taken us to war without the consent of the people.
“The President has completely failed to identify an imminent threat or explain what he is trying to achieve or how he plans to achieve it. Instead, the Administration keeps offering different explanations and changing its story by the hour. That means the President is either making this up as he goes, lying to the country, or both.
“What’s worse is that the same Administration that cut Medicaid, cut basic food benefits, and cut the Affordable Care Act is now waging a war that is costing the American taxpayer over a billion dollars each day. We must reject this costly and aimless war that is built on lies.”
