Congresswoman Brown Blasts Barbaric and Bombastic Comments on Ohio Immigrants

September 11, 2024

Washington D.C.—Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11)spoke out against recent comments and unfounded allegations regarding Haitian immigrants in Ohio during today’s House Committee on Agriculture Hearing. In the last week, the House Committee on the Judiciary, chaired by Congressman Jim Jordan, has posted multiple times amplifying these unfounded and racist rumors.

Congresswoman Brown’s Remarks as Delivered (Video: Youtube, X/Twitter):

“Thank you, Mr. Chairman.

“Before I begin, I cannot let the debunked conspiracy theories about immigrants in Ohio go unaddressed.

“The Republican candidate for president’s remarks about Haitian — meaning Black — immigrants in Ohio were barbaric, bombastic and beneath the dignity of someone aspiring to hold the highest office in the land.

“People are struggling, but these outrageous and racist lies are an insult to our Ohio communities — including the ones I represent here in Congress —and our food pantries, and our local programs and services that work tirelessly to combat hunger.

“We are a nation of immigrants, and trafficking in these baseless conspiracies is destructively divisive.”
