Congresswoman Brown Hosts Pinning Ceremony Honoring Northeast Ohio Vietnam Veterans

Brown recognizes and thanks over 40 local veterans
Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) hosted a Vietnam Veterans Pinning Ceremony on Wednesday at Tri C Corporate College in Warrensville Heights. At the event, over 40 local Vietnam Veterans were recognized for their service and presented with a lapel pin issued by the U.S. Vietnam Veteran Commemoration thanking them for their service.
As authorized by Congress, the Department of Defense established the U.S. Vietnam Veteran Commemoration to honor Vietnam veterans for their service and sacrifice on behalf of our country. Veterans who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces during the period of November 1,1955 to May 15, 1975, are eligible to receive this pin. Local Vietnam era veterans who served in the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy and U.S. Marines were honored.
“This event is all about gratitude. Our Vietnam Veterans Pinning Ceremony is a chance to say a long overdue thank you to men and women who served our country and lift up patriots and heroes among us in Northeast Ohio,” said Congresswoman Shontel Brown. “I was honored and humbled to share a small token of thanks with local veterans who answered our nation’s call. This ceremony is a reminder that our world class veterans deserve world class benefits – and I will keep fighting for them.”
In addition to their official lapel pin from the U.S. Vietnam Veteran Commemoration each veteran was presented with a congressional certificate from Congresswoman Brown.
In addition to Congresswoman Brown, the ceremony featured remarks from Marjorie Morrison – Tri C Collegewide Director of Veterans and Military Connected Service and Ronald Samnik – President of the Joint Veterans Council of Cuyahoga County and the Newton D. Baker Association of the United States Army Chapter.
The Lincoln-West High School NJROTC served as color guard. Representatives from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and local veterans organizations also attended the event.
