Congresswoman Brown Invites NE Ohio High School Students to Apply for OH-11 Youth Advisory Council

September 5, 2025

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) invites local high school juniors and seniors to apply for the OH-11 Youth Advisory Council (YAC) for the 2025-2026 school year.

“I strongly encourage local students interested in government, public service, and public policy to apply to our OH-11 Youth Advisory Council. This is a great opportunity for young people to learn more about Congress and legislation, connect with local leaders, and build new bonds with peers from across Northeast Ohio. I have been amazed and inspired by our Youth Advisory Council students the past two years and look forward to meeting the next class,” said Congresswoman Shontel Brown

The deadline for students to apply is September 19, 2025. Program and application information here.

Throughout the school year YAC students will learn more about public service, legislation and policy, and how Congress works. Council students will lead a mock congressional hearing and prepare a capstone presentation on a policy issue. Students will have an opportunity to work closely with Congresswoman Brown’s Ohio and Washington staff throughout the program. In May, the 2024-25 Youth Advisory Council presented their capstone projects to Congresswoman Brown and other community leaders at a ceremony in Cleveland.

The OH-11 Youth Advisory Council was first launched in 2023.
