Congresswoman Brown Joins Two Resolutions to Investigate Trump and Musk’s Federal Worker Purge and Conflicts of Interest

March 5, 2025

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) joined Democratic colleagues from the House Committee on Oversight as a cosponsor on two Resolutions of Inquiry into the Trump-Musk Administration’s attacks on federal workers and Elon Musk’s conflicts of interest stemming from his unprecedented access to federal payment systems, personnel data, and more via the sham Department of Government Efficiency.

Resolution of Inquiry would require the Administration to provide documents, communications, and factual information. Once introduced, the Committee to which the resolution is referred has 14 legislative days to act on and report the resolution to the House or it will become privileged on the House floor.

“Trump and Musk may not care about the Constitution, but I do,” said Congresswoman Brown. “Congress has a constitutional obligation to provide oversight and oversight of this White House is sorely needed. I am proud to join my colleagues on two Resolutions of Inquiry that would require the White House to turn over documents we need to stamp out the ideological and illegal attacks on federal workers and Musk’s rampant conflicts of interest. The federal government is meant to serve the people, not become Trump’s partisan army and Elon’s ATM.”

Brown is a cosponsor of H. Res. 186, a Resolution of Inquiry filed by Congressman Gerald E. Connolly, Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, to investigate Elon Musk’s extensive conflicts of interest. This resolution would require the President to provide information, documents, and communications to Congress related to:  Musk’s status in the federal government; any conflicts of interest Musk has related to his role; and any federal government contract involving a Musk-owned company or a company for which he serves on the board of directors.

Brown is also a cosponsor H. Res. 187, a Resolution of Inquiry filed by Congressman Kweisi Mfume, Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Government Operations, to investigate the Trump-Musk Administration’s unprecedented attacks on federal workers and their efforts to embed political loyalists willing to turn a blind eye to corruption and grift. This resolution would require the Administration to provide documents, communications, and information regarding: all federal employees put on administrative leave, removed, terminated, transferred, or assigned to another department on the recommendation of Elon Musk or DOGE; the Office of Personnel Management’s determination that employees classified as diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) or employed in an office that conducts work to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion in government would be subject to removal; and the removal of nonpartisan agency inspectors general, and whether the Administration discussed notifying Congress as legally required.
