Congresswoman Brown Leads Effort to Restore Terminated Violence Prevention Grants in Northeast Ohio and Nationwide

Brown co-leads letter to Trump demanding grants for Cleveland Peacemakers Alliance and others are restored
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) co-led a letter demanding President Trumprestore funding for community violence intervention programs in Northeast Ohio and nationwide. In April, the Trump Administration terminated Department of Justice grants that had been previously awarded, including a $2 million dollar grant to the Cleveland Peacemakers Alliance.
In April,Brown blasted the Trump Administration's move, calling it a “disgraceful betrayal.” On Wednesday, Brown’s office will attend an event hosted by the Cleveland Peacemakers Alliance in Cleveland to reiterate her support for this program.
The grant supported the Cleveland Peacemakers Alliance’s efforts to support victims and families impacted by gun violence at Cleveland’s level one trauma hospitals, in collaboration with The Brenda Glass Trauma Recovery Center and Cleveland State University. This grant has now been terminated midstream, impacting the Alliance’s ability to deliver services.
“The Community Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative has been a game-changer for Cleveland. Thanks to this important funding, local groups have been able to expand outreach, provide trauma-informed care, and create safe spaces for young people. These aren’t just programs—they are lifelines that deliver real progress towards making our neighborhoods stronger and safer. The Trump Administration needs to reverse course and restore funding for our local partners doing heroic work in Northeast Ohio and across America,” said Congresswoman Shontel Brown.
The letter, co-led by Reps. Robin Kelly (IL-02), Lucy McBath (GA-06), and Maxwell Frost (FL-10), was signed by 43 House Democrats.
This federal grant program was authorized by the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which Brown voted for in 2022.
