Washington, DC – Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) has been named Vice Ranking Member of the House Committee on Agriculture. Congresswoman Brown has served on the Agriculture Committee since 2021.
“I am honored to be named Vice Ranking Member on the Agriculture Committee and look forward to working with Ranking Member Craig and my colleagues on agriculture policies that work for urban, suburban, and rural America,” said Congresswoman Brown. “Northeast Ohio is home to urban farms, agricultural entrepreneurs, and community gardens. Agriculture policy impacts all of us, because we all need food on the table. One-in-five households in my district rely on SNAP benefits to afford groceries - as Congress negotiates the Farm Bill and the federal budget, I will staunchly defend their pantries.”
The Committee has jurisdiction over the nation’s agriculture policies, including the USDA’s Food and Nutrition programs including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). The Committee is responsible for passing the Farm Bill, which is typically done every five years.
