Congresswoman Brown Statement on the GENIUS and CLARITY Acts

July 17, 2025

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) releases the following statement on the GENIUS Act (S. 1582) and the CLARITY ACT (H.R. 3633):

“The time to act on cryptocurrency and digital asset regulation is long overdue. We need clear, consistent, and forward-looking regulation that protects consumers, supports innovation, and gives businesses the certainty they need to grow responsibly.

“I would strongly support a smart and sound policy framework that protects consumers and allows innovation to benefit everyone. However, innovation without strong guardrails invites exploitation.

“I voted against the GENIUS and CLARITY Acts because they fail to adequately address abuse and instead open the door to corruption. At a time when the current occupant of the Oval Office is personally benefiting from crypto and meme coin ventures, these bills do nothing to close conflict of interest loopholes. They also fall a bit short on consumer protections and the tools to enforce them.”
