Congresswoman Brown Statement on Trump Administration Dismantling the Department of Education

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) released the following statement on Trump Administration’s executive order to dismantle the Department of Education:

“The federal government plays a limited, but crucial role in supporting American educational systems––yet this new Republican scheme to eliminate the Department of Education will devastate our nation’s students from preschool to high school.

“Gutting the Education Department means larger class sizes, less support, and fewer opportunities for students, especially for students with disabilities and students from lower income families. This GOP Attack on Kids will impact Northeast Ohio by jeopardizing over $200 million in federal funding for local schools, funding that approximately 100,000 public school students need to thrive. 

“Ohio students and families are already facing public education cuts by Republicans in Columbus, and now Republicans in Washington want to go further. As a proud graduate of a CMSD school, I am vehemently opposed to this effort to make America less fair.

“I will fight tooth and nail with my House Democratic colleagues to prevent this dangerous order.”
