Congresswoman Brown: Trump Taking Action to Make America Less Fair, Limit Opportunity for Black Americans, and Divest in Northeast Ohio

Washington, DC – On Wednesday, President Trump issued an executive order ending federal programs promoting fair hiring, inclusive workplaces, contracting for minority-owned businesses and other underserved groups, and federal grant preferences programs promoting fair contracting and spending.
Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) releases the following statement:
“President Trump is taking direct action to make America less fair, less just, and less inclusive. On the heels of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, President Trump is limiting opportunities for Black Americans and Black communities to receive their fair share. This is a blueprint for federal disinvestment in Cleveland and cities like it across America. This is a White House making plans to abandon Northeast Ohio.
“The MAGA myth of reverse discrimination isn’t just insulting to my constituents—it is entirely baseless. Fairly distributing federal funding simply means communities that have been locked out, left out and left behind finally get their fair share. And advancing equity in workplaces doesn’t lower standards, it expands the talent pool by breaking down barriers that have excluded people from underrepresented backgrounds for too long.
“I will continue to fight for fair federal investment in my district and places like it across America. And I will continue to support programs that promote fair hiring, representative and welcoming workplaces for all, and equitable distribution of federal funds.”
