Congresswoman Brown Votes for Bipartisan Bill to Expand Child Tax Credit

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) voted for the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act (H.R. 7024). The bipartisan and bicameral legislation enhances the Child Tax Credit and Low-Income Housing Tax Credit, cuts taxes for businesses that invest in innovation, and protects East Palestine, Ohio, residents from a surprise tax bill due to receiving relief payments from Norfolk Southern. After passing the House, the legislation now goes to the Senate.
According to estimates prepared by the Democratic staff of the Joint Economic Committee, approximately 68,000 children will benefit from the expanded Child Tax Credit in Ohio’s 11th District. Nationwide, 16 million children in low-income families would benefit, including more than 1 in 3 of all Black and Latino children under 17, according to analysis from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.
“Ohio parents have bills to pay and it’s time they got some additional help. This is a big win for a lot of Ohio kids and families,” said Congresswoman Shontel Brown. “This legislation cuts taxes for millions of families with children, supports low-income housing efforts, and includes tax cuts for businesses that invest in innovation. It also provides needed tax relief to our neighbors in East Palestine, Ohio. This bill is the product of compromise between both parties in the House and Senate, it’s not perfect, but it’s good for Northeast Ohio and good for the country.”
