Congresswoman Shontel Brown Statement on TikTok

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) released the following statement on TikTok:

“TikTok is at risk of going dark after failing to sell its U.S. platform as required by law to address national security and privacy concerns. This would disrupt the lives of countless Americans, including creators and businesses who rely on the platform for connection and income.

“Congress intended to sever TikTok’s ties to foreign adversaries, not ban it outright. I believe TikTok should remain available to Americans, just under new ownership. The platform’s inability to secure an American buyer underscores the need for more time to resolve this issue. I urge the incoming administration to find a solution that protects people’s data without disrupting their lives and livelihoods.”
