Rep. Brown Applauds Passage of Assault Weapons Ban Act to End Sale of Assault Weapons

July 29, 2022

WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Shontel Brown (OH-11) voted for the Assault Weapons Ban Act, which would prohibit the sale of assault weapons and large-capacity ammunition feeding devices. This comes on the heels of yet another wave of mass shootings across the country involving assault weapons—including the murder of seven people at a Fourth of July parade in Illinois. House Democrats’ swift and decisive action marks the first passage of an assault weapons ban since 1994.

“My community continues to bear the tragic realities tied to senseless gun violence," said Rep. Brown, a cosponsor of the bill and member of the Gun Violence Prevention Taskforce. “Our thoughts and prayers aren’t enough. And every mass shooting we witness proves that Congress must act to end the senseless killings of thousands of innocent children and adults who have become victims of gun violence in their schools, churches, and grocery stores. I commend the House for taking steps in the right direction and urge the Senate to save lives and act swiftly to pass the bill.”
