Rep. Brown Statement on Supreme Court Ruling on Guns

June 23, 2022

WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Shontel M. Brown (OH-11) issued the following statement after the Supreme Court released its New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen decision striking down a New York law restricting concealed carry:

“I am beyond disappointed by the Supreme Court’s utterly shocking and dangerous decision to strike down a state’s right to pass commonsense measures to protect its citizens. Following the horrific attacks in Buffalo and Uvalde, we need to do more to protect our friends and neighbors—not less. Yet the Supreme Court is taking us in the exact opposite direction by allowing more guns in public.

“Our government’s first responsibility is to protect its citizens. For far too long, we have fallen short of that promise. Americans everywhere are calling for sound and sensible solutions to make our communities safer. I hear those calls, and I will continue to fight to deliver the progress we so desperately need.”
