Rep. Brown's Statement on Trump Tariff Loss at Supreme Court

Washington, DC – Today the Supreme Court ruled that President Trump’s the majority of President Trump’s new tariffs are illegal. 

Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) releases the following statement: 
 

“Today’s Supreme Court decision is a win for everyone struggling with higher prices and a loss for Trump and his crackpot theories.  

“This ruling confirms what I’ve been saying all along: the President’s chaotic tariffs were equal parts reckless and lawless. 

“The Trump tariffs disrupted small businesses, strained supply chains, and drove up costs for working families by thousands of dollars. They also dealt a real blow to our farmers, who saw their markets shrink and uncertainty grow.

“Trump’s tariffs have cost us jobs, put a drag on the economy, and tilted the playing field in favor of the connected and the powerful, hurting small businesses without access to Mar-A-Lago parties. 

“No president should be able to make sweeping economic decisions like this in defiance of the Constitution and the law. That’s Congress’s job — and the Court made that clear.

“Moving forward, we need a thoughtful trade approach that support workers and keeps life affordable for Northeast Ohioans.
