Congresswoman Brown Hosts Briefing on the Influence of Black Music

On June 27, 2024, Congresswoman Shontel Brown hosted a briefing and panel discussion on the impact and influence of Black Music in the United States.
The event was titled "Harmonies of Heritage: Exploring the Influence of Black Music" and featured insights and perspective from Black music experts. Congresswoman Brown is the author of a House Resolution to recognize June as Black Music Month.

Dr. Cecil Adderley of the National Association for Music Education and Chair of Music Education Department at Berklee College of Music;
Dr. Dwandalyn Reece from the National Museum of African American History and Culture; and
Dr. Stephanie Shonekan Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities and Professor of Ethnomusicology and Musicology at the University of Maryland.
