Brown Statement on Trump Strikes on Iran

February 28, 2026

Cleveland, OH – Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) releases the following statement:

“My message to this dangerous President is clear: The American people do not want another costly and endless war.

“This President promised to end wars, not start new ones. Yet over the last year, we have seen the same pattern: more strikes, in more places, with less explanation and less accountability.

“The President himself called this a war, yet it was launched without Congressional authorization, without an imminent threat, without an explanation to the American people, and without a clear objective. That is why Congress must step in. When the House considers a war powers resolution related to Iran next week, I will support it just as I have supported every similar effort this Congress.

“Let me be clear: The Iranian regime is repressive, destabilizing and a sponsor of terror. Preventing Iran from getting a nuclear weapon and confronting its human rights abuses and support for terrorism are legitimate and longstanding U.S. goals. But acknowledging those facts does not give any President the right to take this country to war on their own, especially without an imminent threat or having exhausted every diplomatic and economic tool at our disposal.

“The Administration owes the American people and Congress clear answers, and this President must be constrained. At this frightening time, I am praying for the safety of our service members, diplomats, and allies in the region.”
