Congresswoman Brown Announces $10.6 Million in Federal Funding for GCRTA Thanks to Bipartisan Infrastructure Law

Brown also wrote letter in support backing GCRTA’s application
Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) and the Biden-Harris Administration announce $10,633,105 in federal funding to the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which Congresswoman Brown proudly voted for in November 2021. Congresswoman Brown also submitted a letter of support for GCRTA’s grant application in April of this year.
The $10.6 million dollar grant will support GCRTA’s Electric Vehicle Pilot Program as part of the Federal Transit Administration’s Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program, which received nearly $2 billion in funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Thanks to the funding, GCRTA will replace some of its existing fleet with electric vehicles and install charging stations. The project will be piloted out of GCRTA’s Hayden Garage in East Cleveland, with the new electric buses providing reliable, accessible, and convenient transit in Northeast Ohio.
In her letter of support to the Federal Transit Administration, Congresswoman Brown stated that GCRTA’s proposal “is not just an investment in public transportation but also a strategic move towards a more equitable and sustainable future for all residents of the area.”
“I am excited to announce more federal funding coming to Northeast Ohio thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This $10.6 million dollar grant supports cleaner air, reduced emissions, and the modernization of GCRTA’s bus fleet – with a program based in East Cleveland and surrounding neighborhoods that need it. When we invest in transit, we also invest in greater fairness and equity, supporting mobility for all. This is another example of the tangible benefits of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and my office will continue to fight for needed projects impacting our District,” said Congresswoman Shontel Brown.
The award for GCRTA was one of 117 projects in 47 states receiving funding. For a full list of announced grants nationwide, click here.
