Congresswoman Brown Announces Federal Grant of $19 Million Awarded to Cleveland-Cliffs for Electrified Steel Production

Grant program funded by the Inflation Reduction Act
Cleveland, OH– Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) and the Biden-Harris Administration announce todaythat the Cleveland-Cliff’s Steel Corporation, headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, will receive a federal grant of $19,074,900 for electrified steel production in the United States.
The $19 million dollar grant comes from the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) Industrial Demonstrations Program. The grant will support Cleveland-Cliff’s Steel Slab Electrified Induction Reheat Furnace Upgrade project to electrify the only production facility for high-silicon grain oriented electrical steel in the country, located in Lyndora, Pennsylvania, supporting jobs there and in Zanesville, Ohio. The Industrial Demonstrations Program is funded by the Inflation Reduction Act to support the advancement of transformational technologies necessary to decarbonize the U.S. industrial sector. Congresswoman Brown proudly voted for the Inflation Reduction Act.
