Congresswoman Brown Statement on Illegitimate Impeachment Inquiry

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11), a member of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, releases the following statement:

“This is an illegitimate impeachment inquiry that is beneath the dignity of the U.S. House of Representatives. Despite years of investigations, there is no evidence of any wrongdoing by President Biden—and even Republicans admit as much. 

“However, this is further evidence Speaker McCarthy has handed control of the House to MAGA extremists.
 
“Impeachment must be treated with the utmost seriousness, but unfortunately, we have a Speaker more focused on his own survival. This belittles a crucial and highly consequential function of the legislative branch and undermines trust in our government. Such blatantly partisan and political grandstanding is an embarrassing attempt to advance the careers of a few right-wing extremists with no shame or sense of purpose.
 
“My constituents deserve so much better than this. As a member of the Oversight Committee, I will continue to speak up and speak out, because this is absolutely absurd.”
