WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) was sworn in as a Member of the House of Representatives for the 117th Congress representing Ohio’s Eleventh Congressional District. The oath of office was administered by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in the House Chamber of the U.S. Capitol. Congresswoman Brown was joined in the Capitol by her family and friends, including her mother, Rikki; her father, Tony; her siblings, Nicole and Ray; and her nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

“I am humbled and honored to have the privilege of serving the people of Ohio’s Eleventh Congressional District in the House of Representatives,” said Rep. Brown.  “Throughout my career in public service, I have always put people first, working to support low-income families, ensure justice and equity for all, and strengthen the community that I love and call home. These are the values I will bring with me to Congress every day as I serve the people of Northeast Ohio.

“I stand on the shoulders of my predecessors, leaders who worked tirelessly to ensure our community’s voice was heard in the halls of Congress. I take this responsibility seriously, and I will always put the needs of our district first.  We have a lot of work ahead of us as we emerge from the pandemic and work to build an economy that delivers for all people. I can’t wait to roll up my sleeves and get to work with President Biden and my colleagues in Congress to deliver results for the people of Northeast Ohio.”

A native Clevelander, Congresswoman Brown entered public service in 2012 when she was elected as a Warrensville Heights city council member. In 2014, she was elected to represent the 9th district on the Cuyahoga County Council, one of the most diverse in the County, with constituents in the City of Cleveland, as well as inner- and outer-ring suburbs. As a County Council Member, she earned a reputation as a proven and unifying leader, drawing job-creating projects to the district, improving access to affordable health care, and supporting public education.

Ohio’s 11th District includes portions of Cuyahoga and Summit Counties in Northeast Ohio.
