Rep. Brown Applauds Passage of Bipartisan Susan Muffley Act of 2022
WASHINGTON—Today, Rep. Shontel M. Brown (OH-11) released the following statement on the passage of the Susan Muffley Act of 2022. This bill would restore the monthly benefits of pensioners terminated because of the 2009 Delphi Corporation bankruptcy. Rep. Brown issued the following statement:
“No one should ever have to worry about losing their hard-earned pensions,” said Rep. Brown. “I cosponsored and voted for this bill because Americans who invest decades of hard work in their careers should be confident that they will receive the retirement benefits they have rightfully earned.
“Restoring full retirement benefits for about 20,000 Delphi salaried retirees throughout the country, including 5,000 Ohioans, is long overdue. While we still have a lot of work to do, I believe the Susan Muffley Act is a step in the right direction to help ensure the dignity of retirement.”
Background:
The Susan Muffley Act would fully restore Delphi pension plan benefits by directing the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) to recalculate benefits for participants in, and beneficiaries of Delphi plans without regard to the statutory maximum limits on their guarantee. The bill addresses which plans, participants, and beneficiaries would be eligible for increased benefits and how benefits of eligible participants and beneficiaries would be calculated and paid.
