Rep. Shontel Brown Appointed to Serve on House Agriculture and Oversight and Accountability Committees in the 118th Congress

January 27, 2023

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Rep. Shontel M. Brown (OH-11) was reappointed to the House Committee on Agriculture and the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability for the 118th Congress.

"I am honored to continue serving on committees that address fundamental issues of our time," said Rep. Brown. "As a member of the Agriculture Committee, I look forward to building on the achievements of the 117th Congress, including lowering kitchen table costs for working families. From Rep. Shirley Chisholm to Secretary Marcia Fudge and others, this appointment continues the proud tradition of Black women representing urban districts on this committee.

"It is also a privilege to serve on the Oversight and Accountability Committee, which ensures our government is working for each of us, especially those in marginalized and vulnerable communities whose voices have been ignored for far too long. It's time to roll up our sleeves and work to deliver meaningful results for the American people."

The Agriculture Committee oversees USDA and has jurisdiction over all aspects of agriculture, forestry, nutrition, water conservation, land-grant universities, including HBCUs, and other agriculture-related fields. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability, previously known as the Committee on Oversight and Reform, is the main investigative committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. It has the authority to investigate the subjects within the Committee’s legislative jurisdiction as well as "any matter" within the jurisdiction of the other standing House Committees. It is also the House's primary oversight committee with broad jurisdiction over the operations of the federal government and all its agencies.
