Congresswoman Brown Announces Over $1 Million in Federal Funding for Cleveland Metroparks CHEERS Project

Brown secured federal funding for expanded lakefront parkland earlier this year
Cleveland, OH – Today, Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) joined Cleveland Metroparks at the E. 72nd Lakefront Reservation to announce over $1 million in new federal funding for Cleveland Metroparks’ CHEERS park expansion project expanding recreational access to the Lakefront in Cleveland.
Once complete, Cleveland Harbor Eastern Embayment Resilience Strategy (CHEERS) will expand lakefront parkland and create a protected cove with natural shoreline habitat as well as an island with trails and lawns. Park features will include trails, expanded opportunities for shoreline fishing, and green space buffered from Interstate 90 by a vegetated berm.
In January, Congresswoman Brown secured $1,092,000 in Community Project Funding for Cleveland Metroparks in appropriations legislation that was signed into law, after being requested by Brown in 2025.
“I am proud to announce that we have secured over $1 million in federal funds for Cleveland Metroparks and the CHEERS project. My office fought hard for this federal funding because CHEERS will transform our Lakefront and create incredible new recreation activities for Clevelanders. This is federal investment we need to expand access to Lake Erie, stabilize the shoreline, and reinvigorate the East Side. CHEERS is an opportunity to completely change our Eastern Lakefront and I will continue to fight for this important effort,” said Congresswoman Shontel Brown.
