East Cleveland, OH– Today, Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) visited the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority’s (GCRTA) Hayden District Garage in East Cleveland to celebrate the $10,633,105 federal grant awarded to GCRTA thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which Congresswoman Brown proudly voted for.

First announced by Congresswoman Brown and the Biden-Harris Administration last month, the $10.6 million dollar grant will support GCRTA’s Electric Vehicle Pilot Program as part of the Federal Transit Administration’s Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program.
“It’s always good to present a check, especially for an important partner like GCRTA. This federal grant will help bring cleaner air, cleaner transit, and more direct investment to Northeast Ohio. I was proud to support this grant application, and to continue to support public transit locally and nationally, because we all have places to go. This is another win for our district thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, with more funding on the way,” said Congresswoman Shontel Brown.
Congresswoman Brown presented a ceremonial check to GCRTA Chief Executive Officer and General Manager India L. Birdsong Terry and other GCRTA officials and employees and toured the facility.
Thanks to the funding, GCRTA will replace some of its existing fleet with electric vehicles and install charging stations. The project will be piloted out of Hayden Garage in East Cleveland, with the new electric buses providing clean, reliable, accessible, and convenient transit.
The award for GCRTA was one of 117 projects in 47 states receiving funding. For a full list of announced grants nationwide, click here.
