Rep. Brown Announces $259 million for Ohio Transit Projects
WASHINGTON – Today, Representative Shontel M. Brown (OH-11) announced Ohio will receive $259 million this year from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to upgrade and expand local transit. This total includes $65 million and $12 million for local transit projects in Cleveland and Akron, respectively. Funding will allow transit authorities to buy new buses and railcars, address repair backlogs, modernize fleets, and transition to new technologies that reduce carbon emissions.
This funding was authorized in part by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, signed into law by President Biden on November 15. Rep. Brown supported House passage of the bill on November 5.
“Thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, transit agencies in Northeast Ohio will receive historic investments to address repair backlogs, invest in low and zero emission vehicles, and expand services,” said Rep. Brown. “Making long overdue upgrades to our transit systems will reduce commute times and make it easier for riders to get to school, work, and our local hospitals. It will also create good-paying jobs that cannot be outsourced due to the Infrastructure Law’s strong Buy America requirements that apply to steel, iron, and other materials critical to improvement projects.”
