Washington, DC – Congresswoman Shontel Brown (D-OH), joined Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO), and Rep. Valerie Foushee (D-NC) to re-introduce the Prison Libraries Act to expand library resources in U.S. state and territory correctional facilities, aiming to increase educational opportunities, advance reintegration efforts, and reduce recidivism. The bill will authorize federal funds for state prisons to expand library resources and services to support the education and skills training of incarcerated Americans.

Washington, DC – The House of Representatives has passed appropriations legislation which includes $6.5 million in federal funding for seven Community Project Funding (CPF) requests secured by Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11). The legislation now heads to the Senate for a vote.

Brown, who serves as Vice Ranking Member on the Agriculture Committee is a co-lead on the bill, which was filed by House Agriculture Committee Ranking Member Angie Craig.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) and Congresswoman Nanette Barragán (MI-11) announced the Yes in God’s Backyard (YIGBY) Act, legislation designed to address the nation’s housing crisis by empowering faith-based institutions and institutions of higher-education to build affordable housing on underused land they already own. The bill will unlock new housing opportunities in communities facing severe housing shortages and rising homelessness.

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Shontel M. Brown (OH-11) voted today for Democratic-led legislation in the House of Representatives to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits, which expired on December 31, for another three years. The legislation passed the House and now goes to the Senate. 

The Democratic-led legislation was brought to the floor after House Democrats successfully forced a vote using a discharge petition, a legislative tool that circumvented the stonewalling from the Republican Speaker of the House.
